Jalandhar Admin to launch ‘Lok Saanjhedari’ in its war against Covid

In a bid to intensify the war against novel coronavirus pandemic through large-scale awareness activities as well as instilling right practices and etiquettes, combating rumours and stigma, district administration will launch ‘Lok Saanjhedari’, an intense social engagement awareness program in the entire district.

Disclosing more information, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that Lok Saanjhedari is a movement to disseminate the right and relevant information at the grassroots level to keep people safe and secure from the pandemic. He said that this could only be possible with the joint efforts of all of us and strong collaborations in this regard should be ensured.

He said that under the program, an MC ward in the urban region and a village in the rural belt would be divided into small areas.

He told that the separate teams of administration involving Municipal Councillor, sarpanch, doctor, school teacher, youth or religious leader would visit the areas to sensitize the people about precautions to be followed for keeping the contagion under check besides teams would debunk rumours and clear myths.

He emphasized as ‘alertness’ is only vaccine presently to fight the pandemic, the people would be sensitized about the importance of contacting the doctor immediately whenever notice flu-like influenza, coming forward for testing if anyone has come into contact of Covid positive person and giving special attention towards elderly or persons with co-morbidities.

He said that community participation can play a pivotal role in controlling the spread of the Covid-19 by ensuring primary prevention by creating awareness among the masses.

Deputy Commissioner said that preventive measures including wearing of protective masks, washing hands frequently and maintaining two-yard distancing are cornerstones to keep the Covid at bay.

He said that MC Joint Commissioner Harcharan Singh would be the nodal officer in the jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation, Deputy Director Local Government Darbara Singh to lead the campaign in urban local bodies and District Development and Panchayat Officer Iqbalpreet Singh to head the teams in the villages.

He said that nodal officers have been directed to set up the teams and prepare a detailed program about awareness activities under “Lok Saanjhedari’.

Deputy Commissioner solicited fulsome support and cooperation of people for making the program, a huge success to wipe out Covid 19 pandemic.
