‘Is Ashu above the law?’ asks Majithia as SAD demands Minister’s dismissal

Chandigarh, February 25, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today demanded the immediate dismissal of cabinet minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu and presentation of appropriate challan against him in court of law so as to bring him to book for aiding and sheltering terrorists besides an inquiry into the entire case by a sitting judge of the high court.

Addressing newsmen in the press gallery of the Vidhan Sabha alongwith SAD legislative party members, former minister Bikram Singh Majithia also took on chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh for adopting double standards on the issue.

He said the chief minister’s decision to defend the minister and intimidate the police officer who had held an inquiry against Ashu in a land use change case had set dangerous precedents. “The CM has sent a message down the line that any officer who tries to stop illegal activities of Congress leaders will be suspended and even dismissed from service”.

Stating that the government could not adopt double standards, Mr Majithia said in the case of Akali leader Virsa Singh Valtoha a challan was presented in court after a gap of 36 years. “Is Ashu above the law?” the former minister asked adding in case of the Congress minister there was even a confessional statement made before the TADA court by an officer of the rank of Superintendent of Police in 1992.

He said the statement, which Ashu admitted he was giving voluntarily out of his own free will, substantiated his involvement in aiding terrorists to make bombs by lending his premises for the same, giving his gypsy to transport the bombs and advising that they be detonated in the busy Gur Mandi which led to the death of three women and a police constable.

He said Ashu’s brother Narinder Kala, who is also a sitting Congress councilor in Ludhiana, had also confessed separately to the same heinous crime.

Mr Majithia also exposed the Congress claim that Ashu was acquitted in the matter. Presenting the judgment copy, he said the court ruled that the prosecution did not present the confessional statement despite being given several opportunities. He said now that the Congress claim had been proved false the government should immediately order an inquiry by a sitting judge of the high court or the CBI into the case.

The SAD leader also made it clear that the party would stand with all officers, including Balwinder Singh Sekhon, who were being victimized by the Congress government. He said the only mistake Sekhon had made was indicting Ashu while investigating a land use change scam on the orders of former Local Bodies minister Navjot Sidhu.

Mr Majithia said Punjab DGP Dinkar Gupta, who had recently claimed that he had served his State diligently for 32 years, should also take due action against Bharat Bhushan Ashu so that future generations could also remember him for his sense of fair play.
