The rural police on Saturday have arrested three Delhi based residents including a woman and seized one-kilogram heroin at Boparai Bridge in Goraya town of the district.
The accused have been identified as Ashok Kumar (33) of Kewali Road Khanpur, Jackline (24) of Uttam Nagar West and Davinder Kumar (30) of Tarlok Puri in New Delhi.
In a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police (Jalandhar Rural) Mr Navjot Singh Mahal said that a team led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Nirmal Singh of CIA Staff along with his team was conducting a checking at Boparai Bridge and the cops spotted one Maruti Eco-I car (DL-06-CR-3951) coming from Boparai village side.
SSP said that on suspicion, the cops intercepted the car and quizzed its driver who revealed his identity as Davinder Kumar and while other revealed their identity as Jackline and Ashok Kumar.
Mr Mahal told that later DSP Phillaur Mr Davinder Kumar Attri, also reached the spot and in his presence, cops frisked Ashok and checked his kit bag and recovered 800-gm heroin and lady constables seized 200-gm heroin from the purse of Jackline.
SSP said that the accused would be taken on police remand and a detailed probe is being conducted.
However, a case under section 21 of the NDPS Act has been registered against them in Goraya Police Station. (Agency)
