Chandigarh, May 12, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has vehemently opposed the power bills sent to consumers in the state by PSPCL (Power Board) amid the extended lockdown, terming it as anti-people step that seemed to have been taken in utter hurry.

In a joint statement issued from party headquarters on Tuesday, state core committee chairman and MLA Principal Budh Ram, Deputy Leader of Opposition Bibi Sarabjit Kaur Manuke, MLA Rupinder Kaur Ruby and state trade wing president Nina Mittal have demanded that Punjab government should take pity on the common man and immediately withdraw the illegally sent electricity bills to consumers in the state, stressing the need for a complete waiver on power bills for 2 months amid the acute financial crisis triggered by the Covid-19 epidemic and the subsequent lockdown.

Principals Budh Ram and Sarabjit Kaur Manuke said that the manner in which electricity bills were sent to all kinds of consumers, including shopkeepers, tenants and others without any meter readings amid the lockdown, was irrational and illegal.

They added that the electricity consumption during the months of March-April last year, could not be compared with that of March-April this year, keeping in view the weather conditions and temperature, saying that last year due to extreme heat during these months last year, the consumption was more than the this year due to the extended lockdown.

AAP leaders Rupinder Kaur Ruby and Nina Mittal said that during the lockdown which was imposed on April 22, millions of shops, rented houses etc, could not be opened, questioning how could electricity bills be sent to the consumer when their shops and houses never opened due to the extended lockdown? They also demanded a complete waiver on the power bills sent to the consumers without any meter reading.
