Health Dept starts IEC activities in flood-ravaged villages of Jalandhar

With the water receded in various flood-ravaged villages of the district, the health department has started the massive drive to educate the masses about the diseases which may occur post floods.

The health teams led by Civil Surgeon Dr Gurinder Kaur Chawala sensitized the people regarding prevention of post-flood diseases in Jalalpur Khurd in Lohian Khas block of the district on Tuesday morning.

She told the diseases like diarrhoea, jaundice, typhoid, cholera, vector-borne diseases like Malaria, and Dengue etc, skin and eye-related problems use to spread due to lack of cleanliness after post-flood situation.

Dr Chawla asked the people to drink only boiled water or use the water cans being supplied by the district administration. She said that they can also drop one chlorine tablet in 20-litre water which can be used for drinking after half an hour. Further, she told them to cook food only with purified water.

The civil surgeon also told them that the health and MC teams have been carrying out the spray of Larvicide and fogging in the flood-affected areas to check the spread of vector-borne diseases.

Meanwhile, other teams headed by Senior Medical Officers also created awareness about the diseases in Gatti Peer Baksh, Gatti Raipur, Fatehpur Bhagva, Jania Chahal and Jania with the help of villages sarpanchs to prevent the disease.
