In a major break-through, sleuths of Haryana’s Special Task Force (STF) have seized 35 kg charas and 5 kg opium that was being smuggled from Uttar Pradesh in a Bolero vehicle in Sonipat district. One person, carrying the contraband in vehicle, has been arrested. The value of seized drugs is around Rs1 crore in the international market.
While stating this here today, a Haryana Police spokesperson informed that a STF team, which was present near Kundli-Ghaziabad-Palwal Toll plaza during patrolling, had got a tip-off about smuggling of drugs in a vehicle. On receipt of the information, the team immediately laid a trap and after sometime signaled a Bolero to stop for checking. Inspection of the vehicle led to the seizure of 35 kg charas and 5 kg opium.
The arrested accused was identified as Vijay, a resident of Bhawar, district Sonipat. The arrest was made by a team of STF Hisar.
During preliminary interrogation, it was revealed that accused had brought the seized contraband from Uttar Pradesh. He wanted to earn profit by selling it in retail.
A case under NDPS Act has been registered against the accused in Police Station Rai and a probe is underway to find out the involvement of others in this case. The accused produced before the court which sent him police custody.
