Haryana Police tightens noose on sex offenders

Haryana Police is constantly striving to bring the sex offenders to justice through effective and concerted presentation of evidences before the concerned courts. In this series, Police has secured conviction of 26 accused booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and relevant provisions of IPC dealing with rape in the month of February 2020.

Giving this information here today, Director General of Police (DGP) Mr Manoj Yadava said that 5 convicts were sentenced life imprisonment, eight convicts awarded 20 years imprisonment, 9 sentenced 10 years jail, two such offenders got 7 years imprisonment and one each convict awarded 5 years and 2 years jail term respectively.

Through a series of concerted and coordinated measures being made by Police, an upward trend is being witnessed in the rate of severe punishment awarded by the courts in heinous crimes like rape. In the January month too, 17 sex offenders have also been convicted by the respective courts, he added.

He said that Police is moving ahead for securing justice to the rape victims by ensuring effective prosecution as a result of which the conviction rate in such heinous crimes is constantly increasing. In addition, establishment of more fast-track courts also helpful in ensuring speedy justice to the victims.

Among the convictions secured for sex offenders in February are:

1. Court in Sonipat has sentenced a man to 10 years imprisonment for raping a woman. It also imposed a fine of Rs 25000.

2. Court in Kurukshetra sentenced a man to 10 years imprisonment alongwith fine of Rs 30000 after holding him guilty for sodomising a minor.

3. Court in Hisar sentenced a person to 10 years rigorous imprisonment in a rape case of a minor girl. It also imposed fine of Rs10000.

4. Court in Sonipat sentenced a man to 10 years imprisonment after holding him guilty for a raping a minor girl. It also imposed a fine of Rs 10000 on convicted person.

5. Court in Jind has sentenced 10 years imprisonment to a man after holding him guilty for molesting and sexual abusing a 15 year old girl. It also imposed fine of Rs 10000.

6. Court in Palwal has convicted a man for raping a minor girl with imprisonment of 20 years and a fine of Rs 25000. The convict will have to undergo two months additional imprisonment in case of non-payment of fine.

7. Court in Faridabad sentenced life term to four persons after holding them guilty for gang raping a 23 year old woman. It also slapped fine of Rs161500.

8. Court in Ambala convicted a man for sexual abuse a seven year old minor and sentenced 5 years imprisonment. It also slapped a fine of Rs5000.

9. Court in Gurugram sentenced 20 years imprisonment to a man convicted for raping a 15 year old girl. It also slapped a fine of Rs50000.

10. Court in Panchklula handed 20 years term to a man convicted for raping a minor girl. The Court also imposed fine of Rs 25000 on the convict, who would have to undergo 2 months more imprisonment for non-payment of fine.

11. Court in Hisar sentenced life imprisonment with fine of Rs47000 for raping minor girl.

12. Court in Jind sentenced a man to 10 years imprisonment after holding him guilty for a raping a minor girl. It also slapped a fine of Rs 19000 on convicted person.

13. Court in Sonipat has sentenced a man to 20 years in prison for raping a minor. The court has also slapped a fine of Rs 15000.

14. Court in Yamunanagr sentenced a man to 7 years in jail for raping a minor girl. It also slapped a fine of Rs8000.

15. Court in Ambala convicted a man for molesting a minor girl. The convict is awarded 3 years imprisonment with fine of Rs6000.

16. Court in Sirsa sentenced a man to 10 years imprisonment with fine of Rs15000 for raping a minor. The convict will have to undergo 2 months more imprisonment for non payment of fine.

17. Court in Jind sentenced 10 years jail term to a man for raping a minor alongwith fine of Rs23000.

18. Court in Faridabad convicted three persons for gang raping a 17 years old girl and awarded 20 year imprisonment with fine of Rs47000 each.

19. Court in Rohtak convicted a man for sodomising a minor and sentenced 7 years imprisonment. It also imposed a fine of Rs4000 on convicted person.

20. Court in Sonipat sentenced a man to 10 years in-prison for raping a minor girl. It also slapped a penalty of Rs10000 with the direction that in case of default payment, the convict will serve an additional imprisonment of one year.

21. Court in Jind sentenced 20 years jail term to a man for kidnapping and gang raping a minor girl. It also slapped a fine of Rs 24000 on the convicted person.
