Haryana IAS to be Executive Director, World Bank

Rajesh Khullar, a 1988-batch IAS officer of Haryana cadres has been appointed as Executive Director, World Bank Headquarters, in Washington DC.

Khullar who is at present posted as Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar, would be representing India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka at the World Bank.

His new appointment at the World Bank will begin from the first week of November.

The Union Ministry of Finance would send IAS officer’s nomination to the World Bank after which the global organization would hold an election to select him for appointment by October.

His tenure will be for three years from the date of assumption of his charge as Director at the World Bank or till he retires. His retirement is due in August 2023.

It is pertinent to mention here that IAS officer S. Aparna, is presently serving as the World Bank’s Executive Director from India, but has recently been appointed as next Secretary, Pharmaceuticals, under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, and will take over after the retirement of incumbent P.D. Vaghela. Vaghela’s superannuation date is September 30.

A 1988-batch IAS officer of the Gujarat cadre, Aparna was appointed an Executive Director to the World Bank, representing the constituency of India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka in August 2017, and her three-year stint ended this year.

Aparna, 56, has held several top positions in Gujarat, including Principal Secretary, Economic Affairs, and Surat Municipal Commissioner, while she has also served as Joint Secretary, Urban Development at the Centre.
