Harsimrat Badal asks Congress gov t to use addl Rs.638-cr grant allocated by Centre for the benefit of common man

Union minister of food processing industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal today urged the Punjab government to use the additional grant of Rs 638 crore allocated by the centre to mitigate the sufferings of the common man.

In a statement here, Mrs Harsimrat Badal thanked the Union government and finance Minister Mrs. Nirmala Sitharaman for releasing Rs. 638 crore under the revenue deficit grant to Punjab. She said the allocation, which was done yesterday, should be used to ramp up the health infrastructure besides giving relief to the common man.

Mrs. Badal said with this latest allocation, Punjab had now received Rs.5,653 crores funds under various centrally funded schemes including special funds for combating COVID-19 situation. She said now with the State receiving these funds, it should not make any excuse of lack of funds. “The government should start work on this immediately and not try to divert attention of the people by repeated talk of lack of funds received from the State”.

Giving further details, the union minister said earlier Rs. 247 crores funds had been received by the Punjab government under State Disaster Risk Management Fund from the centre. She said the centre had already sanctioned the use of Disaster Management funds for COVID-19. She said besides this Rs.112 crores had been received under the National Health Mission which had not been utilised till now despite the fact that there was a severe shortage of PPE kits and ventilators besides need for more testing kits.

Mrs. Badal said besides this Punjab had received a Rs 1.70 lakh crore relief package under PM Garib Kalyan Yojana as well as Rs.71 crore under MGNREGA. “The central food relief includes 5 kg wheat per person per month and 1 kg pulses (per family) per month for a period of three months.

As many as 1.4 crore people will be covered under this scheme which is half the population of the State. Similarly farmers have been given direct cash benefit of Rs 2,000 under the PM Kisan scheme besides direct benefits under the Jan Dhan yojna and Ujjwala scheme”.
