Harsh Vardhan urged to act as Drugs Controller of India sits on permission to prepare & sell Remdesivir

Amristar, April 26, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
Amid severe shortage of life saving Covid injections, the Drugs Controller of India is delaying permissions to prepare & sell Remdesivir injections in domestic markets to an Amritsar based firm. This delay has come in the backdrop of the request made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Pharmaceutical companies to shore up production of life saving medicines in India.

The country has seen record surge in number of Covid patients in last one week. The people are compelled to buy the life-saving medicines at 20 times of the actual prices due to their shortage in the market. With 50 thousand Remdesivir injections allowed to be sold in the market, Covid patients in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Delhi will get immediate relief as these states are facing acute scarcity of jabs.

“Raw materials for production of 50,000 Remdesivir injections within 2-3 days with Kwality Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Amritsar, waiting for approval from Drugs Controller General of India. Spread the word so that Health Ministry takes note and this helps address the shortage,” political campaign strategist Naresh Arora said in a tweet.

The Tweet went viral as prominent politicians and netizen called up the union health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan to take immediate action.

“It is appalling that Union government has not taken the cognizance despite so many deaths happening due to the scarcity of the injection. I have also written letter to the union health minister to sought his immediate attention to this grave issue,” Arora said when contacted for the comment.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala also appealed the Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan to be pro-active and grant requisite permission in this matter.

“Please act Dr. Harsh Vardhan and grant requisite permission so that thousands of lives can be saved,” Surjewala said in a tweet.

Meanwhile, All India Mahila Congress chief Sushmita Dev accused the Modi government for being arrogant and deliberately delaying permission to firms based in Congress rule states.

“Is it even possible to help this government I wonder if Ministry of Health & Family Welfare can at least make it easy for people to help government at the hour of crisis,” Dev said in a tweet.

Former union minister Jitendra Singh and Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate also called upon the Health Minister to intervene and get the issue sorted.

The company Kwality Pharmaceuticals Limited that has been denied permission to prepare and sell Remdesivir in India has the capacity to produce 50 thousand injections in 48 hours. The firm has the license to export the Remdesivir injections but are being hounded by DCI officials when it is trying to help countrymen in this hour of crisis.

As per latest records, India has over 28.14 lakh active Covid cases as on Monday while more than 1.97 lakh people have lost their lives to the pandemic. Shortage of medicines, vaccines and oxygen cylinders have been widely reported in the media.
