Harry Tector fined for showing dissent during Ireland’s one-off Test against Zimbabwe

New Delhi, July 29, 2024
Harry Tector was fined 15 percent of match fees for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during Ireland’s one-off Test match against Zimbabwe at Belfast.

The sanction on Tector comes after Ireland clinched four-wicket win over Zimbabwe in the first-ever Test cricket meeting between the two teams, where he made 4 and 0 in both innings.

Tector was found to have breached the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, relating to “showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an International Match.” Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.

“The incident occurred in the sixth over of Ireland’s second innings when Tector raised objections after being caught behind. He delayed leaving the field and also gestured at the umpire as noted by the match official,” said ICC in its statement.

There was no disciplinary hearing as Tector admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees. This was the first offence for Tector in a 24-month period and one demerit has been added to his disciplinary record.(Agency)
