Habit forming Drugs worth Rs.2 lac seized in Jalandhar during raids on Medical Stores

Chandigarh, June 19:

In a raid conducted by Drug Control Officers in Jalandhar, late evening on Tuesday, habit forming drugs over Rs.2 lac were seized from three different medical stores in the District.

Giving details, KS Pannu Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration Punjab informed that to curb the sale of habit forming drugs, regular inspections have been ordered.

In line with that, on a tip off, the team of Drug Control Officers of Jalandhar including Mrs Kamal Kamboj, Anupama Kalia and Mr. Amarjit Singh with active support of District Police conducted raids in various parts of District Jalandhar alongwith police parties. ADCP Ms. Sudarvizhi and DCP(I) Mr. Gurmit Singh personally accompanied the team along with other officers of the police party.

They raided Jamuna Medical Hall, Maqsudan and seized habit forming drugs worth Rs.90,492/-. After taking lead from said firm another raid was conducted at M/s Jindal Medicines Pvt Ltd, Dilkusha Market and drugs worth 98,579/- were seized without purchase record. Later, Drugs worth Rs. 51,639/- without purchase record were seized from S.S. Medicos & Cosmetics Store, Nakodar. Habit forming drugs worth Rs7680/- were seized from Gaurav Medical Store Maqsudan as well.

As per initial reports the owners of the Chemist Shops have been arrested and procedure of cancellation of the license of the Medical Stores has been initiated.

Warning the black sheep in the trade, Commissioner said that Chief Minister Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh is very serious on the issue and soon an intensified campaign would be initiated by the Directorate to nip this evil.
