Guv Kataria Hails AIIMS Bathinda’s Breakthroughs; Calls for a Drug-Free, Healthier Punjab

The prestigious “STONE 360” Midterm CUE 2025 two days conference of the North Zone Chapter of the Urological Society of India was inaugurated today at AIIMS Bathinda by the Honourable Governor of Punjab, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria.

In his keynote address, Honourable Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria described the event as a proud moment for Punjab, highlighting that distinguished urological experts from across India have gathered to deliberate on critical advancements in kidney stone surgery.

He paid rich tributes to Punjab’s illustrious legacy as the land of freedom fighters, warriors, and revered Gurus who have sacrificed their lives for the welfare of humanity.

Commending the Department of Urology at AIIMS Bathinda, Shri Kataria applauded their pioneering initiative in launching kidney transplantation services within the government sector in Punjab — a landmark achievement after AIIMS Delhi. He praised the Urological Society of India for the successful execution live surgeries during the conference, reflecting excellence in clinical practice and training.

Reflecting on the broader healthcare reforms in the country, the Honourable Governor lauded the visionary leadership of the Honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, under whose stewardship the number of AIIMS institutions expanded from 7 to 25.

He also recognized the government’s proactive measures during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the promotion of indigenous vaccines and the tremendous contribution of healthcare workers. Highlighting the success of the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, he acknowledged its role in making quality healthcare accessible to millions.

The Governor called upon all citizens to collectively strive for a Nasha Mukt Punjab (drug-free Punjab) and emphasized the urgent need to protect and nurture the youth. He urged the medical fraternity and society at large to impart knowledge, skills, and moral values to the younger generations to secure a healthier, stronger future.

Dr. Meenu Singh, Director, AIIMS Bathinda, extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guest and dignitaries.

Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Punjab, emphasized the importance of healthy eating habits and maintaining physical and mental well-being for nation-building.

Dr. Sandeep Singh Kaura, Advisor, NSDC, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, stressed the need for skill development to implement the Honourable Prime Minister’s vision for a self-reliant India.

Eminent personalities including Prof. Rajiv Sood, Vice Chancellor, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot; Dr. A.K. Sangwan, President, Urological Society of India; Dr. Rishi Nayyar, Secretary; and Dr. Akhilesh Pathak, Dean Academics, AIIMS Bathinda, also addressed the gathering and shared their valuable perspectives.

Prof. Rajiv Sood proposed the formal vote of thanks, expressing deep gratitude to all dignitaries, guests, and participants for their presence and contribution to the event’s success.

Honourable Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria was formally felicitated on this occasion.

Dr. Kawaljit Singh Kaura, Conference Organiser and Head, Department of Urology and Kidney Transplant, AIIMS Bathinda, along with other distinguished dignitaries, graced the occasion.
