Guru Nanak Dev University ranks 17th in India

Guru Nanak Dev University once again proves its supremacy amongst the Government Universities of North India. This was announced by India Today (MDRA) survey 2019. The survey was conducted by Marketing and Development Research Associates (MDRA) a reputed Delhi based Marketing and Development Research Agency.

In the overall India’s Best General Govt. Universities, it has secured 17th Rank by securing 1422.5 overall scores. The survey was based on Intake Quality & Governance, Academic & Research Excellence, Infrastructure & Living Experience, Personality & Leadership Development, Career Progression & Placement, as well as Objective & Perceptual Score.

Earlier the University has made its proud presence felt at various National & International platforms by achieving higher rankings. National Institutional Ranking Framework 2019 conducted by MHRD has ranked University at 55th position amongst National Universities.

Guru Nanak Dev University has also been included among Top Ten High Performing State Universities across India which have been empowered to form Campus Companies that will receive special grants directly from the Centre and attract Foreign Mentors for up gradation and innovation in teaching and research.

The WEEK – Hansa Research Best University Survey 2019 has placed Guru Nanak Dev University at 7th Rank in North Zone Multi-Disciplinary Universities and at 14th Rank in All India Multi-Disciplinary Universities. QS World University Ranking BRICS 2019 a UK based Intelligence Company has placed Guru Nanak Dev University in the Rank Band of 301-350 in BRICS RANK AND 61-65 in India Rank.

Guru Nanak Dev University is a popular University of North India with a score of 3.51 on 4.00 Point Scale of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (A++ Grade). The University Grant Commission has granted “Category One” status to Guru Nanak Dev University. The University has been conferred with the status of “University with Potential for Excellence” by UGC.

It is pertinent to say that with the efforts of all the faculty members and Vice Chancellor’s vision and hard works, University’s ranking has improved and is focusing on excelling in all fields. Vice-Chancellor thanked the University fraternity for their support and co-operation in the upliftment of University. Members of Syndicate, Senate, many local bodies, Professors, Researchers, Officers and Employees of the University congratulated Professor Dr Jaspal Singh Sandhu for this commendable achievement and success.

On the occasion of Golden Jubilee year Annual Convocation, University will honour eminent personality in the field of Sports, Raja Randhir Singh, Life Vice- President, Indian Olympic Association and Dr. Gurtej Singh Sandhu, Senior Fellow and Director, Micron Technology Inc. with Honoris Causa Doctorate Degrees. They will be honoured in the Faculty of Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy and in Faculty of Sciences respectively at the 45th Annual Convocation of the University to be held on July 19, 2019, in the newly renovated Golden Jubilee Dashmesh Auditorium. Honourable Chief Minister Punjab Capt. Amrinder Singh will be Chief Guest on this occasion

Raja Randhir Singh is eminent player of Shooting (trap and skeet), golf, swimming, squash, cricket. He also represented India in shooting at the Olympic Games (Tokyo 1964 (Reserve Shooter), Mexico 1968, Munich 1972, Montreal 1976, Moscow 1980 and Los Angeles 1984), at the Asian Games (Bangkok 1978, New Delhi 1982, Seoul 1986 and Hiroshima 1994) and at the Commonwealth Games (Edmonton 1978). He won Gold Medal in Shooting at Bangkok Asian Games and Bronze (individual) and Silver (team) at the Asian Games (New Delhi 1982).

He Has the honour to work at various prestigious posts of Honorary Secretary General of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) (1987-2014); Member of the governing body of Sports Authority of India (1987-2010); Secretary General of Olympic Council of Asia (1991-2015); Founder Secretary General of the Afro-Asian Games Council (1998-2007); Member of the ANOC Executive Council (2002-); Member of the ANOC working group; ANOC Representative on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Foundation Board (2003-2005); Member of the WADA’s Finance and Administration Committee (2005); Life Vice President of OCA (2015-).

Due to his achievements in the field of sports, he was awarded with Arjuna Award (India’s highest Sports Award) (1979); Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award (State Sports Award) (1979); Merit Award from OCA (2005); Merit Award from ANOC (2006); Olympic Order, Silver (2014); Honorary Doctorate of literature from Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education, Government of India.

Dr. Gurtej Singh Sandhu is an Indian inventor in the fields of thin film processes and materials, VLSI and semiconductor device fabrication. He is recognized for being the all-time seventh most prolific inventor as measured by a number of U.S. utility patents. Gurtej has 1,315 U.S. utility patents as of February 5, 2019.

Currently, he is Senior Fellow and Director of Advanced Technology developments at Micron Technology, Inc. The publication Kiplinger reports, “Sandhu developed a method of coating microchips with titanium without exposing the metal to oxygen, which would have ruined the chips. Initially, he didn’t think his idea was a big deal, but now most memory-chip makers use the process.”

Dr, Sandhu earned an electrical engineering degree at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and PhD in physics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
