Govt School students showcase their talent during SCERT’s ‘Kala Sath’, Harjot Bains congratulates achievers

State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Punjab in collaboration with not-for-profit organization, Slam Out Loud has organised Kala Sath at Tagore Auditorium, captivated audiences as children from goverenment Schools of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar district took to the stage and showcased their remarkable talent through poetry, theatre, songs, and other artistic expressions.

Punjab School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has preside over this function. The three-hour long program is a culmination of year-long programme which was started for students of 10 to 14 age group across government schools of state. Aim of this program is to enhance Social, Emotional, Learning and Creative skills, such as communication, self-esteem, empathy and critical thinking in students.

While addressing on the occasion School Education Minister said that it is a very important to build self confidence in students. He said witnessing the extraordinary talent and passion displayed by these young individuals has been inspiring. He said creative showcases like Kala Sath are an important platform to help unleash the potential within each child. Mr. Bains has commended SCERT Punjab and Slam Out Loud for their commitment to promoting artistic expression in children from government schools.

Mr. Bains emphasized on the importance of incorporating arts-based education into the mainstream curriculum. He added that we must continue to prioritise creative expression in our classrooms as it has the power to inspire and mould children into well-rounded individuals.

The creative showcase witnessed a total of 17 impressive performances, including folk dances Luddi, Giddha, Bhangra, highlighting the diversity of talent among the students, who independently curated and choreographed their segments and put the spotlight on Punjab’s historic culture. Through thought-provoking poetry recitations and captivating theatrical performances, the students talked about climate change, gender inequality, and issues of social justice, leaving the audience inspired.

The collaborative efforts of SCERT Punjab and Slam Out Loud is the first step towards transforming the arts education landscape in Punjab and aims to empower children with the tools to express themselves freely and confidently by integrating an arts-based pedagogy into the curriculum.
