GNDU VC Prof Karamjeet Singh conferred ‘Change Maker of the Year 2025’ Award

Amritsar, Dec 3, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)

In a moment of great pride for Punjab and Indian higher education, Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, was formally presented the prestigious “Change Maker of the Year 2025” award at a special ceremony held in the Vice-Chancellor’s office on the university campus today.

The honour, instituted by the India Education Forum and India Employer Forum in association with TeamLease EdTech and its higher-education platform Digivarsity, was originally announced at the third edition of the Making India Employable Conference & Awards (MIECA 2025) held in Mumbai recently, Organisers chose to personally bring the award to the GNDU campus in recognition of Prof. Karamjeet Singh’s extraordinary contribution to transforming the university into a national benchmark for employability-focused education.

The award was gracefully presented to Prof. Karamjeet Singh by Ms. Geetika Kohli and Ms. Hemlata Sandhu, representing TeamLease EdTech Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai, during a dignified ceremony held in the Vice-Chancellor’s office.

On this occasion, Prof. Palwinder Singh, Dean Academic Affairs; Prof. K.S. Chahal, Registrar; Prof. Shalini Bahel, Professor Incharge (Examinations); Dr. Subheet Kumar Jain, Directorate Open and Distance Learning; Dr. Navdeep Singh Sodhi, Coordinator, University-Industry Linkage Programme; and Sh. Praveen Puri, Director Public Relations, along with other senior faculty members and officers were present.

The citation accompanying the award salutes Prof. Karamjeet Singh as “a visionary academic leader who has redefined the role of a public university in preparing India’s youth for the jobs of tomorrow”.

It highlights how, under his dynamic leadership, Guru Nanak Dev University has emerged as one of the country’s most forward-looking institutions, seamlessly blending academic rigour with industry-relevant skills, apprenticeship-embedded degrees, cutting-edge research, and an unmatched placement ecosystem.

The distinguished jury that selected Prof. Karamjeet Singh comprised some of India’s most respected minds — Padma Vibhushan Dr. R.A. Mashelkar, Dr. Chenraj Roychand, Mr. Siddharth Pai, Ms. Roma Balwani, and Prof. T.N. Singh — each a pioneer in their respective domains of science, education, industry, and innovation.

Receiving the award amidst applause from faculty members, non-teaching empolyees and students, Prof. Karamjeet Singh said, “This honour belongs to the entire GNDU family — our dedicated teachers, brilliant students, supportive alumni, and industry partners.

Guru Nanak Dev University was founded on the sacred principles of Guru Nanak Dev Ji — truthful living, selfless service, and sharing knowledge. Today, we are living those values by ensuring that no talented young person from Punjab or beyond is left behind because of lack of employable skills.”

The organisers of MIECA 2025 noted that rarely has a Vice-Chancellor so completely transformed an entire ecosystem — raising academic standards, forging deep industry partnerships, empowering women students from rural backgrounds, and producing graduates who are not just employable but true change-makers themselves.

As Punjab’s premier university completes 56 years of glorious service this month, the “Change Maker of the Year 2025” award to its Vice-Chancellor stands as a resounding affirmation that Guru Nanak Dev University is not merely keeping pace with India’s aspirations — it is helping shape them.
