Geetika Jakhar bags gold in World Police Games

Haryana’s Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Geetika Jakhar has brought laurels to the State by bagging the gold medal in wrestling event in World Police and Fire Games held in Chengdu in China, recently.

Geetika Jakhar is the first Indian woman wrestler to get the prestigious Arjuna Award. Sh has won medals in several national and international-level events including Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and World Championships. Police officers from many countries had participated in the World Police Games.

A spokesman of the Police Department said that it is matter of pride that Haryana police personnel are not only participating in national and international sports events but also made their identity in country’s medal tally.

Geetika Jakhar has won the silver medal in Doha Asian Games 2006. A wrestler professionally and won Bharat Kesri for nine times. She won Silver Medal in 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow. Apart from fetching laurels in international women wrestling, she is a winner of Bhim Award in 2003. She became the first woman wrestler to get the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2006. Winner of two gold medals (2003, 2005) and a silver (2007) in Commonwealth Championships, the list of her international triumphs is notable.
