Forcible cutting of minor Sikh student’s hair in UK School: SGPC to write to Jaishankar, High Commissioner of UK

Amritsar, May 24, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Sri Amritsar has taken strict notice of the forcible cutting of hair of a 5-year-old Sikh student in a school of South London in United Kingdom (UK).

SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur strongly condemned the forcible cutting of Sikh student’s hair at the school in South London.

Bibi Jagir Kaur said that it is extremely unfortunate that the incident hurting the religious sentiments of the Sikhs has taken place in a school of Britain.

“It is a gross violation of religious rights of the Sikhs, which can never be tolerated. Even before this, hate incidents against Sikhs had been coming to light from foreign countries”, said SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur.

She said, “The ‘kes’ (hair) are an important part of the identity of Sikhs and at the time of formation of Khalsa (initiated Sikh) on March 30, 1699, by Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Sikh master, hair were recognized as one of the five kakaars (articles of Sikh faith). Sikhs live all over the world and Sikh identity should not be misunderstood in any country in today’s time. But still the Sikhs are being looked at with hatred.”

SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “In the latest incident, a serious crime has been committed by forcibly cutting the hair of a 5-year-old Sikh student inside a school in the UK. Whoever has done this should be severely punished.”

Bibi Jagir Kaur appealed to the Sikh organizations in the UK to investigate the matter seriously and take strict action against those involved in hurting the religious sentiments.

Bibi Jagir Kaur said that the SGPC will also write a letter to the External Affairs Minister of India and the UK’s High Commissioner in Delhi.
