First Sikh Football Cup starts with ‘Khalsai Jaho-Jalaal’ at Amritsar

The inauguration of first Sikh Football Cup was held under Khalsai traditions during a function held at Khalsa College, Amritsar. This cup is being organised by Khalsa Football Club (Khalsa FC) and Global Sikh Sports Federation. Jathedar Takhat Shri Kesgarh Sahib Singh Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh was the chief guest on the occasion.

Takhat Shri Damdama Sahib former Jathedar Giani Kewal Singh, Sant Kapoor Singh Saneran Wale, Panj Piaras from Shri Akal Takhat Sahib, Khalsa FC President Harjit Singh Grewal, Additional Sessions Judge Jalandhar Hira Singh Gill, DPRO Sherjung Singh Hundal, Principal Mehal Singh, Principal Inderjit Singh besides several others were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Singh Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh said it is a matter of great pride for the Sikh Panth that Sabat-Soorat Football players are being promoted by Khalsa FC through the Sikh Football Cup. He urged the players to maintain their original Sikh attire and promote sikhism globally. He appealed that players of other sports should also retain their original SikhI saroop.

Khalsa FC President Harjit Singh Grewal said that with aim to bring awareness about mistaken identity of Sikhs and to stop racial attacks on Sikhs abroad, Khalsa FC is forming a Keshdhari football team, that would compete in all major football tournaments in India and foreign countries. He said this team would help to aware the masses about real identity of Sikhs.

He further said that Khalsa FC is also planning to organise a regional football tournament in North India. Besides, from next year onwards, football tournaments for girls would also be organised and a separate Sikh Football Cup would also be organised in Chandigarh.

Football promoter Grewal also appealed to the people to support Khalsa FC wholeheartedly because the sole aim of this club is to promote Sikh values and ethos amongst the youth.

Singh Sahib Giani Kewal Singh and Khalsa FC Senior Vice President Balwinder Singh Jaurasingha also addressed the gathering and shed light on the activities of Khalsa FC. The stage was managed by Principal Balwinder Singh, while Khalsa FC Secretary General Dr Pritam Singh thanked the gathering.

Giani Kewal Singh recited the ‘mool-mantar’ (hymns) five times to the gathering, and performed ‘Ardas’ to seek blessings of Almighty. The students of Guru Ram Das Public School Amritsar recited Kirtan and all teams took part in march past.
