Rupnagar, October 13, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)
Acting on long-standing complaints from farmers in the district about being forced to purchase boosters along with fertilizers, the Department of Agriculture has taken strict action. Based on the complaint filed by Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Gurmail Singh, an FIR has been registered at City Police Station Rupnagar against rack handler Manpreet Singh of “Soi Kheti Sewa Centre.”
Giving details during a press conference, Rupnagar MLA Advocate Dinesh Chadha stated that for a long time, farmers were being exploited by certain distributors who compelled retailers to sell unnecessary and overpriced booster products along with fertilizers.
He said that in many cases, the price of these products was even higher than that of a fertilizer bag. Disputes often arose between farmers and retailers, but the real culprits were the distributors who coerced shopkeepers into bundling such products with fertilizers.
MLA Chadha further said that Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann and Agriculture Minister S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian have issued strict directions that no inconvenience or exploitation of farmers will be tolerated under any circumstances. The government is committed to ensuring that Punjab’s “Annadata” (food providers) receive all facilities and support at the grassroots level.
He added that with this FIR, the first step has been taken, and a thorough investigation will follow. Anyone found guilty of exploiting farmers will face strict legal action.
MLA Chadha also appealed to shopkeepers to come forward and report any distributor who tries to coerce them into selling such products so that strong action can be taken against those responsible for looting farmers for years.
