SAS Nagar, October 17, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)

A small delegation from Finland, comprising two academicians and a school health worker, today visited government schools in Mohali to witness the ongoing education reforms and innovative learning initiatives being implemented under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains.

The delegation—Ms. Paula Santanen, Ms. Riikka Toivonen, and Ms. Hanna Heikkilä—visited the School of Eminence, Phase 11, Mohali, where they observed classroom activities under the English Helper Programme and interacted with students and teachers. They expressed admiration for the students’ confidence, English-speaking skills, and the progressive learning environment fostered in Punjab’s government schools.

Accompanied by District Education Officer (Secondary) Dr. Ginni Duggal and Principal Lovish Chawla, the delegation also participated in a Parent-Teacher Meet, where they engaged with parents and students to understand the community’s involvement in education. They appreciated the proactive participation of parents and the transparency encouraged through such interactions.

Impressed by the modern infrastructure, interactive digital panels, and technology-driven classrooms, the visitors praised Punjab’s commitment to holistic education. “The integration of technology into classroom learning in Punjab’s government schools is exemplary. It not only enhances engagement but also encourages creativity and confidence among students,” they remarked.

The delegation also visited the school kitchen and sampled the Mid-Day Meal, commending the State Government’s efforts to provide students with nutritious food. They acknowledged the holistic approach of combining academic excellence with health and well-being.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ginni Duggal said that the presence of Finnish education experts symbolizes the growing collaboration between Punjab and Finland in the field of education.

“This partnership focuses on knowledge exchange, teacher training, and curriculum development, which will further strengthen our education system. As per the directions of Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, another batch of Punjab teachers will be proceeding to Finland for advanced training this November,” she added.

Parents Rajwinder Kaur and Sonia Sandhu, attending the meet, expressed satisfaction with the government’s education reforms. They shared that they have shifted their wards from private to government schools owing to the visible improvement in infrastructure, teaching quality, and overall learning environment.

The delegation also visited Government Senior Secondary School, Gobindgarh, where they were served a delicious lunch prepared by the Hotel Management Trade students, a course being run under the National Skill.
