Ferozepur DC Chander Gaind says no to Diwali Gifts, pastes Notices at his Office & Residence

Ferozepur, October 25, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

Imparting the message of transparency and honesty among the government officials, Deputy Commissioner Ferozepur Chander Gaind has refused to accept gifts from visitors on Diwali.

The notices in this regard have been glued at the entry of the deputy commissioner office and DC residence situated at border road. These notices read as: I wish you a very Happy Diwali, no gifts, please. Your good wishes and blessings are all that I need, From Chander Gaind, IAS Deputy Commissioner Ferozepur.

Divulging more about this unique idea, the deputy commissioner said that the state government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh is committed to bringing transparency in the day-to-day office work of the various departments to cultivate an errorless system.

This task could be achieved by making bureaucracy more accountable toward the public. Thus it was our duty to contribute to the efforts being made by the state government.

Mr. Gaind said that whatever we were doing in the offices was our duty and we were bound to discharge our duties with honesty and transparency which were the ethos of our democratic system. To cater to this motto we should not accept any kind of gifts, favors, and obligations from the public.

Mr. Gaind said that the step was aimed at cultivating and promoting a culture in the offices to refrain officials and employees from having gifts from the visitors on Diwali so that a sense of service can be instilled among the government officials.

The deputy commissioner also called upon other government officials and employees to follow the lead by not accepting gifts on Diwali instead give people a Diwali gift by harnessing their efficiency and dedicating their office time only to the public work.

He further urged people to put to an end the practice of bringing gifts to the offices, rather make a Happy Diwali of the underprivileged sections of the society by donating them the necessary commodities on this festival of lights and happiness.
