Punjab School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains today visited Civil Hospital Sangrur and took stock of the health status of Meritorious School students. The Education Minister interacted with the students in detail and assured strict action against those responsible for the incident.

Talking to the media, Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that in future, feedback form will be taken from the students of all the meritorious schools every month in order to stop such incidents completely. The Education Minister said that he himself will read the feedback forms and appropriate action will be taken according to the details by the students. He said that today these forms have been sent to all the meritorious schools of Punjab.

He said that the contract was signed with this contractor at Ghabadan in February 2023 and he was instructed to follow all the terms and conditions keeping in mind the interests and health safety of the students. He said that the information from the students revealed that after Diwali there was a decline in the quality of food, about which these students also informed the school management, but the situation did not improve.

Education Minister said that this is a serious matter and if the facts in this regard come out during the investigation, adequate action will be taken against those who did not take the complaint of the students seriously. He said that the principal of the meritorious school has also been suspended with immediate effect.

The cabinet minister said that the health of the children admitted in the hospital was sound and most of the students have come to the hospital due to anxiety. He said that none of the children complained of vomiting or diarrhoea. He said that samples of the food material being served in meritorious schools have been sent for testing and strict action will be taken as soon as per the results.

He said that MLA Narinder Kaur Bharaj and Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal had already met students and their parents and apart from providing support to them at all levels, they have also taken the information regarding the incident from them.

The Education Minister said that food samples have also been taken in the remaining 9 meritorious schools of Punjab by the teams of the Education and Health Departments and they are personally monitoring the entire process.
