Extended jurisdiction of BSF in Punjab an open robbery on rights of state: Parminder Dhindsa

Chandigarh, October 14, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
Senior Leader of Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt), MLA and former Finance Minister, S. Parminder Singh Dhindsa today slammed the Union Government for extending the jurisdiction of BSF in the border areas of Punjab.

Coming down heavily on Centre Government, S. Dhindsa said that this decision is a blatant robbery of the rights of the state by the central government. Taking away the rights of the state in the name of border security is not justified at all, he added.

He said that since independence there have been continuous attempts by the central governments to usurp the rights of the states.

Referring to the Anandpur Sahib resolution, S. Dhindsa said that the resolution also emphasized the protection of the rights of the states and the strengthening of the federal structure.

Earlier, Indira Gandhi had made awkward attempts to weaken Punjab and now the Modi government is following the same footsteps, said S. Dhindsa. This is undermining the democratic system, he added.

Referring to the three anti-farmer black laws enacted by the Center, S. Dhindsa said that even with these laws the Union Government has perversely directly robbed the rights of the states.

“I believe that at this point of time, there is a sense of urgency and greater need for bringing in the resolution of Shri. Anandpur Sahib,” said S. Dhindsa.

He said that today we are witnessing the result of the concern expressed by our forefathers in the past for the protection of most of the rights of the state including the capital of Punjab and the waters of Punjab.

He said that instead of giving more powers to BSF, it should have coordinated with Punjab Police. As has been the case in the past, but the Center wants to bring maximum territory of Punjab under its jurisdiction through the back door, which is its first step, he added.

S. Dhindsa said that Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt) strongly opposes this decision of the Central Government and urges immediate reversal of this decision.
