Eviction of farmers: AAP delegation to meet affected Punjabis in Terai: Bhagwant Mann

Chandigarh, 20 June 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

A delegation of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab will meet the affected Punjabi farmers in the Terai region of Uttar Pradesh, who are under constant thread of being evicted by the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments.

The three-member delegation comprising party state president and MP Bhagwant Mann, Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema and Kisan Wing state president Kultar Singh Sandhwan, said in a joint statement issued from party headquarters on Saturday, that they would meet the affected farmers in the Terai region of Uttar Pradesh facing eviction from the state BJP government there, adding that they would broach the issue with government there to hammer out a viable solution to the imbroglio.

Disclosing this here on Saturday, LoP Harpal Singh Cheema said the BJP governments in Uttar Pradish and Uttarakhand had been hell bent on uprooting thousands of Punjabi farmers and their families, who made the barren lands in the Terai region fertile and cultivable by shedding their sweat, the way Punjabi farmers in the Kutch area of Gujarat state were evicted with brute force.

He added that Punjabi-origin farmers were being constantly harassed by the governments of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, which reflected the anti-farmer face of the BJP.

Cheema said the Badals, like the BJP, were equally responsible for the displacement of Punjabi farmers in the Terai area, who (The Badals) were under pressure not to speak up for the Punjabi farmers, simply to save the ministerial berth of Bibi Harsimrat Kaur Badal, adding that the issue of Punjabi farmers residing in other states was testing time for the Punjab unit of the BJP.

Cheema said that if the Badal family and Punjab BJP leaders did not take a clear stand on the sensitive issue of Punjabi farmers’ displacement in the Terai region, the people of Punjab would never forget and forgive them.
