Events to mark 400th Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib commence

Gurmat Samagam has been inaugurated by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to mark the 400th Prakash Purab (birth centenary) of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, the ninth Guru.

In this connection, Sri Akhand Path Sahib has been inaugurated at Gurdwara Guru Ke Mahal, the birthplace of the ninth Guru, followed by the commencement of Gurmat (teachings of Sikh Gurus) events at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Diwan Hall attached to Sri Darbar Sahib.

During the first day’s events, the bhog (culmination) of 20,000 Sehaj Paths were held jointly by the sangat. Due to Covid-19, the events have been held symbolically. Some sangat participated in the bhog of Sehaj Paths at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib, while others joined in the same through various channels.

The sangat that held bhog of 20,000 Sehaj Paths belong to different countries, which was inspired by the SGPC in association with Sri Sehaj Path Sewa Lehar organisation.

SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur specially participated in the bhog of Sehaj Paths at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Diwan Hall and shared her views with the sangat and motivated the sangat to connect with the ideology of Guru Sahib, on the historic occasion of the 400th birth anniversary of the ninth Guru.

“The centenary days are a golden opportunity to connect with our history and embrace the values of Dharam (righteousness). Therefore, it is the duty of all of us to make Gurmat ideology, a part of our life”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

Bibi Jagir Kaur said that a large number of sangat paid homage to the ninth Guru on the occasion of his 400th birth centenary by reciting Sehaj Paths and it is important for this movement to reach from house to house.

She said that the tradition of Sehaj Path of Gurbani is old in Sikhism and with it comes a deep understanding of the meaning of Gurbani. She also thanked the members of the society for their support in the Sehaj Path movement.

Earlier, Sri Akhand Path Sahib was inaugurated at Gurdwara Guru Ke Mahal, with the beating of five nagaras (war-drums).

Bhai Rajdeep Singh offered prayers on the occasion while Giani Jagtar Singh, head granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib recited the holy Hukamnama.

Nagar Kirtan to be decorated, carried out on April 30; centenary celebrations on May 1

Sangat which want to pay homage should not be stopped, one-day lockdown should be relaxed: Bibi Jagir Kaur

Nagar Kirtan will be decorated and carried out from Sri Akal Takht Sahib to Gurdwara Guru Ke Mahal on April 30 as part of the celebrations in connection with the 400th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib. This Nagar Kirtan will start at 12 noon. Apart from this Gurmat event will also continue at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Diwan Hall.

On the centenary day, bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib will be held on May 1 at Gurdwara Guru Ke Mahal and a function will be held at Diwan Hall Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib.

SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur said that the centenary celebrations were being held in a symbolic manner due to Covid-19. She said that live coverage has been arranged on various channels to connect the sangat with the centenary celebrations. She said that although in view of the present Covid-19 situation large-scale events could not be held.

She said but the devotion of the sangat is of the utmost importance. The sangat which want to pay homage to Guru Sahib should not be stopped and the government should also consider giving one-day relaxation from lockdown, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

Beautiful Deepmala and floral arrangements at the birth place

Gurdwara Guru Ke Mahal has been illuminated with beautiful lamps by the SGPC on the occasion of 400th Prakash Purab and the decoration of various types of flowers has also charmed the minds of the sangat. On this occasion, decorative gates and kesri flags have also been placed in the city.

At Gurdwara Guru Ke Mahal, different langars have been set up by the SGPC and Kar Sewa Samprada for the sangat. Bhora Sahib at Gurdwara Guru Ke Mahal has also been given a beautiful look on this historic occasion, the Kar Sewa of which has been rendered by the dignitaries of Qila Anandgarh Sahib.

Poets presents history of Guru Sahib in Kavi Darbar

A special Kavi Darbar was organized at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Diwan Hall to mark the centenary of 400th Prakash Purab. On this occasion Panthic poets introduced the history of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib to the sangat through their poems. Among the poets who presented poems at Kavi Darbar included S. Balbir Singh Bal, S. Gurbachan Singh Khemkarni, S. Malkit Singh Nimana, S. Satbir Singh Shaan, S. Ajit Singh Fatehpuri, S. Shukarguzar Singh, S. Joginder Singh Umranangal, S. Satnam Singh Komal, S. Kuldeep Singh Darajke, and S. Sukhwinder Singh Rataul.

Meanwhile, the groups of Bhai Shaukin Singh, Bhai Karaj Singh, Bhai Jagtar Singh, and Bhai Karnail Singh, hazuri raagis of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib connected the sangat with Gurbani Kirtan at today’s event at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Diwan Hall.
