Ensure Sugar Mills pay it to farmers, Partap Bajwa to Amarinder as he thanks CM for release of Rs.299-cr Arrears

Former PPCC president and Congress Rajya Sabha Member Partap Singh Bajwa has thanked the Government of Punjab for taking immediate steps to release funds to clear arrears due to sugarcane farmers.

Bajwa said that he and his colleagues in the party had raised this issue with the hope that the Government would ensure that the farmers of Punjab are looked after. It is pertinent to mention here that Bajwa along with 3 Congress MLAs – Fatehjang Singh Bajwa, Balwinder Singh Laddi and Joginder Pal Bhoa.

The Rajya Sabha Member said, by sanctioning the release of Rs. 150 crore from the Finance Department and Rs. 149 crore from Sugarfed Punjab, a positive signal to the farming community has been sent: their interests are paramount in policy-making.

He hoped that this situation does not arise again. Our farmers cannot be made to wait years to receive payments that are due to them, he said.

Bajwa also hoped that the Chief Minister will personally intervene with the private sugar mills as the Agricultural portfolio comes under your direct purview.

“As you are aware that about Rs. 383 crore is due to farmers from these private mills, I urge you to step in and ensure that these dues are paid at the earliest,” he said.

Thanking CM once again for the actions of the Government so far, Bajwa once again urged the CM that to use all legal means available in having the dues cleared by private sugar mills.
