The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has vehemently opposed the government’s decision to depute government school teachers on the border check posts and perform duties at the airports amid the corona, saying it was a shaming disgrace to the noble profession.
In a statement issued from party headquarters on Saturday, senior party leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema and State core committee chairman and MLA Principal Budhram said that Capt Amarinder Singh government should take a cue from the Arvind Kejriwal’s government in Delhi and accord due respect to the teachers, known as the ‘nation builders’, by keeping them confined to imparting education to students in schools, which was their prime duty.
Harpal Singh Cheema said that the traditional political parties had been deliberately trying to derail government school education under deep-rooted conspiracy. This is why the teachers were tasked with sundry duties, including compiling voter lists, supervising open defecation during the ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign checking illicit liquor peddling at distilleries to, to curb illegal mining and now at the airports to receive and escort passengers from home and abroad and so on, which was an unfortunate decision of the government, besides being a disgrace to the noble profession.
Principal Budhram said that while on the one hand government teachers were very busy handling online classes for students, on the other teachers were being deputed in the ongoing Corona Prevention Campaign from the front, which not only exposed the government’s insensitivity, but also exposed the highhandedness in risking their (Teachers) lives in the absence of any insurance cover.
The AAP leader said that on the one hand the Kejriwal Kejriwal government was sending the government teachers to Singapore and Oxford for higher training, on the other hand the Captain government was keeping the teachers on tenterhooks by issuing new orders daily to embarrass the beleaguered community.
The AAP leaders demanded that the government should immediately reverse its orders, which appears to have been issued in utter haste deputing the teachers in the anti-corona campaign.
