Education is permanent solution to eradicate poverty’ – CM Channi inaugurates 5 chairs at Guru Nanak Dev University

Today, in the Dashmesh Auditorium of the Guru Nanak Dev University, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Punjab, S. Charanjit Singh Channi said that Material help to the economically weaker is not a solution therefore only education could be the permanent solution to eradicate poverty.

He was here in the Guru Nanak Dev University for the inauguration of Five Chairs Dr. BR Ambedkar Chair, Sant Kabir Chair, Bhai Jiwan Singh / Bhai Jaita Ji Chair, Makhan Shah Lubana Chair & Bhagwan Valmiki Chair at the University.

While inaugurating these chairs, S. Charanjit Singh Channi, said that a new education model will be introduced by Punjab Govt. shortly which would focus on quality education for all. This will provide better opportunities to youth for employment. He said that the main objective of this will be to retain youth in their homeland. He said that more job oriented and need based courses will be encouraged.

While congratulating the Guru Nanak Dev University for its congenial atmosphere for studies, he said that he is happy over the establishment of five prestigious Chairs named after great personalities with the objective to carry forward the legacy of wisdom, truth, humanity and courage. He said that our younger generation should know the great sacrifice and struggle made by our ancestors.

He said that nobody could be deprived of good health and education due to background and poverty. He said that to provide all these services to society is their responsibility & all essential major steps would be taken to ensure this. He said all requirements relating to grants will be provided to the University as per demand. A Sangeet Academy in the name of eminent folk singer Gurmeet Bawa would be established shortly, CM added.

Earlier, Prof. Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice-Chancellor welcomed Punjab Chief Minister and other guests & gave details about the achievements of the University. He also requested the Chief Minister to solve the problems relating to faculty and provide sufficient funds for the smooth conduct.

Sh. Navjot Singh Sidhu, President, Punjab Pradesh Congress said that as per the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji, Sarbat da Bhala and Unity is the key mantra of success which we all believe. He said that Sant Kabir, Baba Sahib Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Bhai Jiwan Singh, Makhan Shah Lubana and Maharishi Balmiki are not religious personalities only but institutions themselves. He said that if we implement the philosophy of greats Gurus and Saints, we would be able to retain youth going abroad.

S. Ajaib Singh Bhatti, Deputy Speaker, Sh. Gurjit Singh Aujla, Member Parilament, Dr. Rajkumar Verka, Cabinet Minister appreciated Punjab Govt. for establishing these chairs. They said that the Punjab CM is implementing the thought of Baba Saheb Amedkar.

Dr. Kuldip Kaur, Professor, Dr. BR Ambedkar Chair, Prof. Dr. Harish K Puri, former Professor of the University, Dr. Amarjit Singh, Head, Centre on Studies in Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Dr. Sarbjinder Singh, Chairperson, Sant Prem Singh Murale Wale Chair and Dr. Sudha Jitender, Head, Hindi Department gave an introductory talk on these five personalities. Vice Chancellor Prof. Sandhu honored Punjab CM S. Charanjit Singh Channi and other guests with fulkari as a token of remembrance on this occasion. Prof. Anish Kumar Dua, Dean Students’ Welfare conducted the proceedings.

Prof. S.S. Behl, O.S.D. VC, Prof. Hardip Singh, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. K.S. Kahlon, Registrar, heads of various department, teachers, students and staff were also present.
