ED, IT Teams Raid Former Punjab Minister Sunder Sham Arora’s Residence in Hoshiarpur

Hoshiarpur, January 28, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Teams of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Income Tax Department (IT) on Wednesday carried out a joint raid at the residence of former Punjab minister Sunder Sham Arora in Hoshiarpur as part of an ongoing financial investigation.

According to official sources, the central agencies began the search operation early in the morning. The process was continuing till the filing of this report, with security tightened in and around the premises. Movement in and out of the residence was restricted during the operation.

Sunder Sham Arora is currently out on bail in a disproportionate assets case registered against him by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau. He was earlier arrested for allegedly attempting to bribe a senior vigilance officer with ₹50 lakh in an effort to influence the investigation against him. A separate case was also registered in connection with the alleged bribery attempt.

Arora has had a fluctuating political career in recent years. He was among several senior Congress leaders who had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) before later returning to the Congress fold.

During an earlier raid conducted by the Vigilance Bureau, officials had recovered a currency note counting machine from Arora’s residence, which drew widespread public attention. The incident was frequently referred to by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in his public addresses and became a major talking point in political circles.

Officials have not yet disclosed details regarding the outcome of the latest searches. Further information is expected once the investigation progresses.
