New Delhi, April 30, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

The Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has decided to file review petition in the Supreme Court on acquittal of 9 persons in case of fuelling massacre of Sikhs in East Trilokpuri area during 1984. This was disclosed today by the DSGMC President Mr. Manjinder Singh Sirsa here today.

Talking to reporters on the decision of the Supreme Court to acquit 9 persons due to lack of evidence, Mr. Sirsa said that this decision has come as a big setback for Sikhs. He said that the DSGMC has sought the copy of the order and after getting legal opinion on it, it will file review petition in Supreme Court urging the court to consider the matter afresh.

He disclosed that the trial court had held 88 persons guilty in this case and the High Court had upheld punishment awarded to 70 guilty of 5 years imprisonment to everyone. He said that that was a big relief for the Sikhs but now acquittal of 9 persons is setback for us.

Mr. Sirsa said that today’s decision is more sensitive when Sajjan Kumar main conspirator who is behind bars has applied for bail and two others have been awarded death sentence.

He said that though today decision is a set back but it will not deter the Sikhs specially the Akali Dal and DSGMC from pursuing other cases related with the 1984 Sikh massacre. He said that the DSGMC is committed to take all the cases related with the massacre to their logical and legal conclusions and will ensure punishment to the guilty.

The DSGMC President said that the even after passing of 35 years Sikhs have not recovered from the wounds of the 1984 Sikh massacre. He said that since long Congress governments tried to shield the accused and even honour the accused with positions in Government and the party and now after change of government at the Centre and matter being aggressively pursued by the SAD President Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, Union Cabinet Minister Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur Badal and the DSGMC some of the guilty have been sentenced to jail. He said that come what may we will take all the cases to their conclusions and ensure punishment for the guilty.
