New Delhi, 01 July, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
Mr. Inder Mohan Singh, Member of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) while giving information to the press said that the Gurdwara Election Directorate of the Delhi Government has issued a Gazette notification thereby countermanding election of Gurdwara Ward no. 45- Khureji Khas and stated that all proceedings with reference to the election of this ward shall be commenced afresh in all respects as if for a new election.

It is also clarified in this notification that no further nomination shall be necessary in the case of a person who was a contesting candidate at the time of countermanding of the poll and no person who has given a notice of withdrawal of his candidature before the countermanding of the poll shall be ineligible for being nominated as a candidate for the election after the countermanding.

It is pertinent to mention that the election of this ward was countermanded due to death of a candidate of a recognised religious party.

Mr. Inder Mohan Singh said that due to Covid-19 epidemic, Delhi Gurdwara Elections which were scheduled to be held on 25th April, 2021 were postponed for some time. He said that in the present scenario and as per information received from some reliable sources, these elections are likely to be held soon except election for Ward no. 45- Khureji Khas which can be held a little later. S. Inder Mohan Singh gave information that 3 Lakh 42 thousand voter will participate in the present elections out of which there are 1 Lakh 71 thousand male and an equal number of female Sikh voters will franchise their votes.

He said that although in accordance with an amendment made in the year 2010 in the Gurdwara rules, it is mandatory to prepare complete voter lists with photographs but presently photographs of only 80 percent Sikh voters exist in the voter lists. It is also worthwhile to mention that in the last elections held in the year 2017, only 45 percent of voters casted their votes out of a total of 3 Lakh 86 thousand Sikh voters at that time.

Mr. Inder Mohan Singh said that there are 310 candidates contesting the present Delhi Gurdwara Elections out of which 180 candidates are set up by the recognised religious parties on reserved election symbols whereas 130 candidates are independent candidates.

He said that if elections are held this month, only then the new Committee will come into existence in the month of August 2021 because atleast one month time is required for Co-option of members and election of Executive Board of the DSGMC.
