Dr Tejinder Singh Riar has joined as Additional Director Communication, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) for a period of four years. The appointment was approved during the meeting of Board of Management, held under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon today.
Dr Riar has made an immense contribution to the field of extension education. He has served as Associate Director (Skill Development) and played a pivotal role in starting agri start-ups, incubation programmes and projects related to Punjab Skill Development Mission.
Besides, he has taught 56 postgraduate courses and 81 undergraduate courses on extension training, extension administration, communication process and philosophy of extension education.
He has 31 research papers, 13 books, 27 bulletins and 68 popular articles to his credit. His research findings relating to group cohesiveness functioning of farmers’ organizations and evaluation of training programmes can be applied for the improvement of various extension programmes.
Dr Riar has also conducted 352 Radio/TV talks for the transfer of PAU technology to farmers. He has been instrumental in organizing and coordinating 1,068 training programmes/courses for the farmers, farm women and extension functionaries/personnel.
He has coordinated the functioning of all Farmers’ Clubs like PAU Kisan Club, Progressive Beekeepers Association, PAU Seed Producers and Nursery Growers Association, PAU Tree Growers Association, PAU Flower Growers Club, PAU Soybean Producers Club, Crop Residue Managers Association and PAU Organic Farming Club.
These organizations are recognized as mouthpiece of PAU regarding its recommended technologies. He is also the Incharge of Kairon Kisan Ghar where farmers and extension personnel from Punjab and other states come to PAU and stay.
