A graduate of PAU, Ludhiana Dr Sangeeta Toor joined the Department in Oct 1988

The Punjab Government on Tuesday appointed Dr Sangeeta Toor as the Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry. With this, Dr Toor has become the first woman director in the history of the department. Before this, she was serving as Joint Director, Animal Husbandry (Planning and Development).
Speaking on her stellar achievement, Dr Toor thanked Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Animal Husbandry Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian for giving her this responsibility. She said besides working on various ongoing projects, her focus will be on resolving issues related to Punjab Veterinary Vaccine Institute, Ludhiana.
A robust vaccine production will ensure control of different contagious diseases among livestock including poultry, she added. The other important priority will be filling up of vacant posts of veterinary inspector and other staff along with providing quality medicines in veterinary hospitals.
“As the first woman director of the Animal Husbandry Department, my aim will be to motivate Veterinarians specially the Lady Veterinarians to be the leaders for change and innovation. Punjab has a lot of scope in terms of dairy farming, poultry farming, goat farming etc and it will be my endeavour to facilitate quality veterinary services to the farmers,” Dr Toor said.
Dr Sangeeta Toor joined the Animal Husbandry Department in October 1988 and rose to the rank of Deputy Director. She was promoted to the post of Joint Director subsequently in December 2022. She is a graduate of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.
