Former Principal of Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College Ludhiana Sardar Hari Singh Ji passed away on August 13. He was born in Baba Bakala (Amritsar). For about 35 years, he served first as a professor of Electrical Engineering at Guru Nanak Engineering College and later became the principal of the same college.
Apart from teaching engineering, he was also the director of literary and cultural activities along with his colleague and dear elder brother Prof. Malvinderjit Singh Waraich. He started a celebration “Anand Utsav” on a large scale from the students and made it a special activity.
“Kala Sangam” organization was formed in the college to encourage creative talented young sculptors. He also himself continued to write the weekly column “Kan Kan Meech Vigyan” in Punjabi Tribune. He was an inspiration to all.
After retirement, he was made the Dean of Sant Harchand Singh Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology for four years. After that, he was also the Dean of Sant Bhag Singh Engineering University for five years.
Dr. Hari Singh aged 93 years left behind a family including two sons. After retirement, he learned to sing Kirtan and used to satisfy his soul by singing Kirtan freely.
After the separation of his life partner Prof. Sukhbir Kaur, he devoted most of his time to teaching science free to students.

Balvev Singh Sran, Brigadier Zora Singh Khosa, Prof. Jagmohan Singh, former MLA Nazar Singh Manshahia, Deputy Chief Engineer Retired Paramjit Singh Dhaliwal (all his former students) Prof. Sukhwant Singh Gill Batala, Principal of Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College Dr. Sehajpal Singh, Former Director of DAV Educational Institutions Dr. Satish Sharma, Chairman of Punjabi Lok Virasat Academy Ludhiana Prof. Gurbhajan Singh Gill have also expressed their condolences to the family and expressed their grief. Many alumni of SCD Govt College, Ludhiana have also expressed their grief.
According to his close relative Eng. Surinder Singh Virdi, the last rites will be performed on August 15 at 2 pm at Urban Estate Dugri Crematorium Dugri (Ludhiana).
