Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Mr. Sunil Jakhar has advised Akali Dal President Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal to remember his 10-years tenure in Punjab instead of shedding crocodile tears in favor of Arnab Goswami of Republic TV. SAD led govt had tried its best to gag the media in decade-long regime in Punjab for raising voice against mafias and gangsters.
He said that Congress party was not in favor of anybody taking law into own hands but a complaint would be lodged with the Press Council of India and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Mr. Jakhar said, “Of course we oppose Arnab Goswami’s use of biased language towards one political party and using unrestricted language against others contrary to the principles of journalism. We respect the authority but at the same time statement made by the SAD President on this issue is deplorable. It would have been better if Mr. Badal had retreated to the tenure of his government before making such remarks.
State Congress president said that every citizen of Punjab knew how the media was treated shabbily when SAD-BJP was in power in Punjab. Certain newspapers were constantly deprived of government advertisements. Many channels were forced to shut down. Akali Dal used every possible means to silence the media and today the party had no logic to launch such criticism of Congress.
Jakhar said that although he favored freedom of press in letter and spirit but can’t hesitate in strongly condemning the way Arnab Goswami was performing contrary to the basic tenets of journalism.
