Donors start to pour in Plasma for care of critical patients, call upon other survivors to donate

The COVID Survivors, who came forward to donate their Plasma at the recently established Plasma Bank here at Government Rajindra Hospital, have also appealed to other recovering Corona patients to donate their plasma as well.

The Plasma Bank of Government Medical College, Patiala has been set up by the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to make the war against COVID-19 ‘Mission Fateh’, a success.

Interacting after donating his Plasma here, COVID winner Aneesh Garg said that he was tested psoitive for COVID on last April 17 and he was declared cured on May 15, now after developing of antibodies in his body, he has donated his Plasma.

Denying rumours of physical weakness after Plasma Donation, Mr. Garg said that infact it had given him immense pleasure that his Plasma would save the lives of two COVID patients in their critical stage. He called upon the recovered patients of COVID to come forward voluntarily to donate their plasma in public interest.

Similarly, another COVID Survivor Krishan Kumar Gaba who has also donated his plasma after recovery, said that he would donate plasma again after 15 days. Exhorting the other recovered patients to come forward to donate plasma wholeheartedly, he said that this would help the others to survive from this deadly disease to come out of critical stage.

Meanwhile, the nodal officer of Plasma Bank Dr. Rajni Bassi said that after 28 days of recovery, antibodies started to develop automatically in human body. Whenever a patient come to donate Plasma, the tests are conducted to check whether antibodies developed or not. After that the person becomes eligible for donation. She said that Plasma can be donated with in four months since declared cured.

Dr. Rajni further said though the patients were coming to donate Plasma but only those could be selected who had antibodies against COVID-19 and did not have any other serious illness by adding that only the plasma of a healthy person can be used to treat critically ill patients of COVID-19 with Convalescent Plasma therapy.
