Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Friday launched a fresh attack on the Centre over the ongoing students’ protests, alleging that the government is “afraid” of the country’s youth and attempting to suppress their voices.
In a video message, Kejriwal advised Prime Minister Narendra Modi to focus on delivering meaningful work rather than trying to curb criticism from young people.
Kejriwal claimed that the Modi government had introduced a new law under which social media platforms would be required to remove posts, articles or videos critical of government actions within a specified timeframe if directed by authorities.
“They have brought a new law. If the government asks any social media platform to delete a post, article or video, they will have to remove it within three hours. This means if you speak against paper leaks, ethanol blending or corruption, your post can be deleted within hours,” he alleged.
The AAP leader said such measures indicate that criticism of the Prime Minister or the NDA government would not be tolerated, while those in power could allegedly make offensive remarks against protesting students without facing consequences.
Kejriwal said the Jantar Mantar student protest reflected growing public dissatisfaction that had been building over the past decade. He alleged that the government was attempting to silence young voices instead of addressing their concerns.
He further claimed that students were mistreated, women protesters were disrespected and dissent was being suppressed, adding that such an approach was not appropriate.
“Instead of scaring people and crushing their voice, you should do good work. People will start praising you,” Kejriwal said, urging the Prime Minister to focus on governance.
Warning the government against suppressing youth concerns, he said that attempts to silence young people would only increase public anger.
“The more you suppress the voice of the country’s youth, the more their anger will rise,” he said.
Earlier, Kejriwal had criticised Meta India, alleging that his account was restricted without any valid explanation. In a social media post, he accused the company of being overly compliant with the government and said, “Don’t bow down to our Prime Minister so much. Else he will allow you to run only his own account in India.”
