“DISHA” : A boost to Women Safety – ADGP Gurpreet Deo

ADGP (Community Affairs and Crime Against Women and Children ) Gurpreet Kaur Deo while applauding the SBS Nagar Police’s Initiative on awareness of crime against women and minors, said that inspire of number of provisions in law to punish the offenders but due to lack of information or reporting to police, the offenders could not be booked. She said ‘DISHA` would definitly make the people aware of preventive steps that could be taken to thwart any untoward happenings.

Releasing the booklet on ‘DISHA’ she said that by implementing these awareness activities at ground level we can reduce the crime rate against women and children. Mentioning the helpline numbers to get help in case of any emergency, she advised to feed helpline numbers 181 (Non Emergency), 112 (Emergency) and 1091 (Women Helpline) in the mobiles.

Similarly mobile apps SHAKTI and KNOW YOUR POLICE are must have apps in the mobiles of women especially, she added. She said that police’s initiative to help the women in odd hours to reach their homes is getting good response in five major cities. She said that 523 Saanjh Kendra were Instrumental To Redress Women and Other Problems in Punjab too.

Earlier interacting with the Rayat College Management, she mooted to start a skill course for the distressed women so that they can be provided assistance to be independent. In this regard, an MOU can also be signed to give it practical shape, she added.

She said to save women from the unknown phone calls from bad elements, one can approach the Cyber Crime Cell set up at each district. She also solicited help from Rayat Faculty for next level training for Punjab Police Cyber Crime Cell Personnel by roping in high tech companies like IBM etc.

DSP Deepika Singh gave the presentation on awareness programme DISHA. She siad that the booklet contained every aspect of information related to safety of women and children. It has immense details of IPC Sections, Do and Don’ts, kinds of harassment, Good Touch and Bad Touch, Use of Pepper Spray and ho to prepare at home, Self Defence tecniques etc.

Interestingly, ADGP Gurpreet Deo and SSP Alka Meena answered all the querries of students especially girls/women present there regarding the sfatey of women and children.

Prominent amongst the others present on the occasion, included SSP Roopnagar Swapan Sharma, Nirmal Singh Chairman Rayat Group, Dr. Sandeep Singh Kaura MD, SP (H) Balwinder Singh Bhikhi, DSPs Navneet Kaur and Jatinderjit Singh besides Director (Admin) of Rayat Campus Satbir Singh Bajwa.
