The Shiromani Akai Dal (SAD) Sainik Wing today asked Rajya Sabha mp Sukhdev Singh Dhinda not to damage his parent party with illogical and intemperate statements and reminded him of the various honours bestowed on him by the party. It also announced its full faith in the Presidentship of S Sukhbir Singh Badal.
In a statement here, Sainik Wing President Er Gurjinder Singh Sidhu said from being the Transport minister in S Parkash Singh Badal’s government in 1977, S Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa had been nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 1998 after losing the 1997 assembly election and went on to become a cabinet minister in 2000. He said Mr Dhindsa was again nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 2010 and 2016 after losing the parliamentary elections twice in a row.
The Sainik Wing President said former chief minister S Parkash Singh Badal had always given a preeminent place in the party to Mr Dhindsa and had stood with him even at the cost of parting ways with senior Akali leader and former chief minister Surjit Singh Barnala.
He said Sardar Badal had stood with the Dhindsa family through thick and thin and even groomed the mp’s son Parminder Singh Dhindsa to play an important role in the party as well as the government. “Even Mr Dhindsa’s son-in-law was given the party ticket from Mohali”, he added.
Er Sidhu said Mr Dhindsa’s announcement that he would work in tandem with the self styled Taksalis was tantamount to playing to the designs of the Congress party which was supporting the Taksalis to weaken the SAD as well as Sikh institutions.
“This is not expected from a senior leader who been part of all decision making and has even seconded S Sukhbir Singh Badal’s name during the last two elections to the post of President of SAD”.
He said Mr Dhindsa should also realize that all those who had parted ways with the SAD had been cast to the fringes of Punjab politics and he should now make amends and work to strengthen the hands of party President Sukhbir Singh Badal and also ensure the future of his dynamic son Parminder Dhindsa is not harmed in any manner”.
