Deputing male cops for AAP’s Women Wing protest was totally unethical: Sarvjit Kaur Manuke

Chandigarh, August 30, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has strongly condemned the brutal action of Chandigarh Police on the leaders and volunteers of the Women’s Wing. The AAP stated that it was extremely shameful and unethical for male personnel and officers of Chandigarh Police to try to stop unarmed women protesting peacefully and resort to cane-charge and use of water cannons on them.

The volunteers of the AAP Women’s Wing on Sunday were going to gherao the Chandigarh BJP office against the atrocities being perpetrated by the ruling BJP and its goons on women and the farmers in Punjab and the country.

To stop the gathering of the AAP volunteers, the Chandigarh Police started using water cannons and canes on them. AAP Women’s Wing state president Rajwinder Kaur, youth leader Anmol Gagan Mann and dozens of party volunteers were seriously injured in the caning by the police.

In a joint statement issued from the party headquarters here on Monday, Deputy Leader of Opposition Saravjit Kaur Manuke, MLAs Prof Baljinder Kaur and Rupinder Kaur Ruby said the police have lathi-charged the peacefully protesting women at the behest of the BJP leaders. They said despite the information, it was morally wrong to impose the duty of male police personnel to stop the women leaders and activists protesting at the protest site. “The brutal action taken by the police at the behest of the BJP has put the entire Punjab and the country to shame,” they added. The leaders demanded the Chandigarh Administration to conduct a high-level inquiry into the entire incident.

They said that the Aam Aadmi Party will always raise its voice in support of the ‘annadatas’ fighting for their existence and against the atrocities on women across the country. “The government of BJP and the Congress will never be able to suppress it with their repressive policy,” they added. The leaders further said that the Chandigarh Police had earlier also cane-charged the Women’s Wing of the AAP; who was peacefully protesting outside the residence of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.

The AAP leaders said that on Sunday, the police had exposed their anti-women thinking by repeating this incident again. They alleged that the Modi government, which was elected by the people with faith, was committing atrocities on them by suppressing the voice of the common people.

Taking cognizance of this act of Chandigarh Police, Punjab Women Commission has condemned it. They said that a delegation of the Aam Aadmi Party’s Women Wing would meet the Punjab Women Commission and demand an inquiry in this regard.
