Demonetisation hit the poor worst: Preneet Kaur

Patiala, May 7, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

Former union minister and Congress candidate from Patiala parliamentary constituency Ms Preneet Kaur today said that the demonetization had not only hit the country’s economy, but had also affected the poor the worst. She said, lakhs of jobs were lost due to demonetisation as so many small scale industries got closed.

Speaking at various public meetings in the Shutrana area falling under Patiala parliamentary constituency today, Ms Kaur said, the BJP government led by Narendra Modi was most insensitive towards the needs and problems of the poor. She reminded people how demonetization had caused havoc across the country and people were made to queue up outside the banks to withdraw their own money and that too, just Rs 2,000 no matter how much money they had in the bank.

The former minister of state for external affairs said that the five years of Modi government at the centre and the ten years of the Akali-BJP government in the state had completely destroyed Punjab’s economy and industry. Similarly, she added, the agriculture sector had also suffered the worst as farmers had been pushed towards suicides.

Ms Kaur said, Punjab was the first state in the country that had launched farmers’ debt waiver scheme and also the state provided maximum relief to the tune of Rs 2 lakhs, while other states were providing Rs 50,000 or Rs 1,00,000 only. She said, as the economy of the state was improving, there would be more relief for farmers and landless farm labourers also.

Warning people to vote cautiously and carefully, she said, it was important that the Congress government was formed at the centre. “A Congress government will always be friendly towards Punjab, unlike the BJP government which never bothered or cared about the state”, she alleged, while adding, how the BJP government provided special packages to the states of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh at the cost of Punjab’s interests, which led to the industry moving out from Punjab to these two states.

Mr Preneet Kaur was accompanied by the local MLA, Nirmal Singh Shutrana and others.
