The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee president Manjinder Singh Sirsa today appealed to the Delhi government to get rejected the last bail application of 1984 Sikh genocide accused Naresh Sherawat, on medical ground and assure that the accused would not come out.
Sirsa said that recent acquittal of Trilokpuri Sikh genocide accused had upset and pained the Sikh community. If Sherwat is given bail, the community’s pain will be increased further. Negligent attitude of Delhi government was the main reason for acquittal of Trilokpuri accused. There should be no further negligence as the case is related with emotions of a community.
Delhi government should file an application and convince the court why the accused should be released. If he needs medical treatment, it should be made available inside the jail premises. He should not be allowed to go outside of jail.
The DSGMC president said that even 34 years after the Genocide, the accused were moving freely. With efforts of the DSGMC, the Union Government had constituted SIT for investigating the case. The SIT had got punished a few accused. One accused was sentenced to death and one was given life imprisonment.
He said DSGMC’s legal cell Chairman, Mr. Jagdip Singh Kahlon is looking after the case. He said that accused Naresh Sherawat submitted an application in Delhi Court urging bail on medical ground.
In the application Sherawat said that he has liver disease that is to be treated from outside doctor. But court told him that when the disease could be treated by the medical experts why he was left for outside treatment. During the hearing on May 1 the accused told the court that he had to take opinion from medical expert other than jail.
The next hearing in the case is to be held on May 6 when the court will go through the medical history of the accused, Sirsa said.
