Delhi Govt facilitates safe return of 350 Punjabis stranded in Capital

As many as 350 Punjabis stuck in the capital city of Delhi during the corona-induced national lockdown were on Sunday sent back to their homes by the Delhi government, giving them necessary medical check-up and fitness certificates.

These Punjabis belonging to different parts of the state of Punjab were quarantined in various places in Delhi, including Gurdwara Majnu Ka Tilla.

AAP’s Tilak Nagar (Delhi) MLA Jarnail Singh and in-charge of Punjab political affairs, and Timarpur MLA Dilip Pandey, facilitated safe return of the stranded Punjabis to their home state in the presence of local officials. The AAP leaders extended their thanks to, besides the Delhi government, the union and Punjab government.

In a statement issued from party headquarters on Sunday, Jarnail Singh said that these Punjabis drawn from various parts of Punjab were kept in isolation at various places amid the corona pandemic, with high-end board and lodging arrangements in place, where they were subjected to regular statutory medical examination, to their satisfaction.

The Tilaknagar legislator informed that the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Harpal Singh Cheema had been pursuing the process of their safe return with the Delhi Government. Citing letters written by LoP to Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh in this regard, who had assured of necessary action in the matter.

Jarnail Singh on the occasion said that with the efforts of the Kejriwal Government in Delhi, Capt. Amarinder Singh Government of Punjab and Union Government, all these citizens were in their perfect health.

He urged the Punjab government should, as a precautionary measure, subject them to statutory testing for Covid-19.
