Delhi Akali Chief Sarna Thanks Home Minister Amit Shah for Clearing Sikh Jatha Pilgrimage To Pakistan

New Delhi, Oct 2, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)

Delhi Akali chief Paramjit Singh Sarna thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah for granting permission to the Sikh jatha to travel to Sri Nankana Sahib, Pakistan, on the occasion of Sri Guru Nanak Sahib’s Parkash Gurpurab this November.

Sarna noted that both his party and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) had urged the Home Ministry, pressing for a review of the earlier decision that had denied clearance for the pilgrimage. “The approval reflects sensitivity to Sikh religious sentiments and restores a long-standing tradition observed since Partition under the Nehru–Liaquat Pact of 1950,” he said.

The Delhi Akali leader called the decision a “moment of immense relief and happiness” for the Sikh community. “We are grateful to the Home Minister for his intervention and for ensuring that devotees will be able to bow their heads at the birthplace of Guru Nanak Sahib. This reaffirmation of faith traditions strengthens the trust between the community and the government,” Sarna added.

He also appreciated the cooperation extended to Sikh institutions in facilitating the jatha, expressing hope that such support would continue for future religious and cultural pilgrimages.
