Crop damage through winds, rain: Sukhbir asks Amarinder to order immediate Girdawaris

Chandigarh April 17, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

The Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal today asked the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to immediately order special girdawari to assess the losses suffered by the farmers across the state following inclement weather conditions over the recent days.

If the inclement weather persists , then the government must pay immediate and liberal in terim relief to farmers till the Girdwari is completed.

Mr Badal demanded liberal and prompt compensation to every affected farmer as a vast majority of them have no other sources of income. “As CM, Mr Parkash Singh Badal had hiked the compensation amount for such calamities from Rs 2000 to Rs 8000 and in several severe cases to Rs 10000. Captain Singh must enhance it further liberally as prices of all agricultural inputs as well as the costs of living for bare subsistence have gone considerably up in the state over the past two years.

Mr Badal demanded a compensation of Rs 15000 per acre for the extensive damage to the standing crop. If not done promptly and liberally, this will spell doom for the already beleaguered farmers who were already on the brink of economic and psychological collapse following the betrayal by Amarinder Singh who has gone back on a sacred oath in the name of Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji’s sacred ‘charan’ to waive off the entire loans of every farmer, including those taken from commercial banks, cooperative societies or Arhtiyas and money lenders.

Mr Badal also demanded that the entire process of assessing the loss must be totally transparent and preferably videographed so that farmers are not made the target of governmental discrimination on petty political considerations.
