Under the humanitarian works and to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, the Covid Care Centres established by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), have become assurance of treatment for the patients.
Recently, the SGPC had inaugurated Covid Care Centres at Gurdwara Manji Sahib, Alamgir, Ludhiana and Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda, which are proving to be important establishments for the Covid-19 patients. These centres are providing oxygen to the patients as well as experienced medical staff are deputed by the SGPC to take care of them.
SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “The present situation is very serious due to Covid-19 and SGPC is setting up care centres at various places while understanding the plight of the people. Apart from Covid Care Centres at Ludhiana and Damdama Sahib, these centres are being set up soon at Patiala and Bholath as well.”
Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “So far about 100 Covid-19 patients have started receiving treatment at the SGPC’s care centre at Alamgir Gurdwara. Of these, 55 patients have recovered and returned home. In addition, 12 serious patients were rushed to different hospitals after preliminary examination at the centre.”
She said that similarly, about 50 patients have been admitted at the care centre at Sri Damdama Sahib.
“The staff of Sri Guru Ramdas Hospital, Sri Amritsar and Baba Budha Ji Charitable Hospital, Bir Sahib is deputed at the care centres. At the Alamgir facility, Dr Narinderjit Singh Kang and at Sri Damdama Sahib facility Dr Himank Gandhi are leading the teams of medical staff deputed to serve the Covid-19 patients.
The medical staff is performing duties in three shifts. At these centres, all the medical facilities including the medicines are being provided to the patients free of cost. Adequate arrangement has been made for the langar (cooked food)”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.
SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur said that SGPC is the foremost body of the Sikh Panth, which strives to serve humanity in the hard times of need.
“The Sikh organisation is offering services at every possible level in the present time of Covid-19 pandemic. In this time of crisis, the SGPC’s Sri Guru Ramdas Hospital, Amritsar has been completely dedicated to the Covid-19 patients. There is a provision of 100 beds and necessary ventilators. So far, hundreds of Covid-19 patients have recovered and gone home from here”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.
Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “SGPC is working hard to bring large quantities of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine from the USA and hoped that it would be successful soon. A letter in this regard has been written to the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi Ji and Union health minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan Ji and once approved the vaccine would be of great help in treatment of Covid-19.”
“An oxygen plant is also being set up by the SGPC which would provide relief to the patients admitted in the SGPC hospitals. At present there was a problem in the supply of liquid oxygen for which a letter has been written to the Government of India. Once approved, it will be a great support for patients”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.
Bibi Jagir Kaur further said that very soon a large number of more oxygen concentrators would be procured with the full support of the sangat settled abroad.
She appealed to the sangat (devotees) to follow the prescribed rules and of the government and health department to prevent Covid-19 spread. She said that only with the collective efforts we can emerge out of this pandemic.
Meeting held with doctors to review care of Covid-19 patients by SGPC president SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur reviewed the present situation of Covid-19 in a meeting with the doctors of Sri Guru Ramdas University of Health Sciences, Medical College and Hospital regarding the services provided by the SGPC for the treatment of Covid-19 patients. During the meeting she reviewed the arrangements at the existing centres considering the future services.
Bibi Jagir Kaur directed the medical staff to be ready to take care of the Covid-19 patients in every possible way. She also discussed the possibility of opening medical aid centers at other places as per requirement.
During the meeting, SGPC senior vice-president S. Surjit Singh Bhitewad, vice-chancellor of Sri Guru Ramdas University of Health Sciences Dr Daljit Singh, director principal Dr Manjit Singh Uppal, Dean Dr AP Singh and Dr Shaukin Singh, registrar Dr Baljit Singh, Dr Pankaj Gupta, Shri Sunil Kumar CFO, Dr Sukhbir Singh and others were present.
