Connecting children & youth with Sikh heritage an important duty of women: Bibi Jagir Kaur

Mata Gujri Ji Istri Gurmat Sammelan has been held on Wednesday on the second day of the three-day function held at Gurdwara Sahib Patshahi Nauvin Baba Bakala Sahib by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), dedicated to the 400th Prakash Purab (birth anniversary) of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib.

A large number of women participated in the event and listened to Gurbani Kirtan and Gurmat Vichar.

Prominent personalities including SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur addressed the gathering.

Bibi Jagir Kaur while sharing her views with the sangat said, “Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib was a defender of religion who gave his martyrdom for the protection of human rights. If the culture of the country is alive today, it is due to Guru Sahib.”

SGPC president said that Guru Sahib represented Sikhism as well as all sections of the country, an example of which is to save the religion of Kashmiri Pandits.

“Along with the ninth Guru, Mata Gujri Ji has also made a great contribution in Sikh history”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

Encouraging the women, SGPC president said, “It an important duty of mothers to connect their children and youth with the Sikh heritage, for which, the women should come forward for a conscious role. The Sikh movement should be started at the family level by considering the important women of Sikh history as role models for flourishing of Sikhism.”

She said that since the time of Gurus, women have played a major role in the Charhdi Kala (high spirits) of Sikhism.

“Many revered women including Bebe Nanaki ji, Bibi Bhani ji, Mata Ganga ji, Mata Gujri ji, Mata Bhago ji are important characters of Sikh history”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

She added said that the 400th birth anniversary of the ninth Guru is a special occasion for the sangat to come forward to connect the children with their history and Gurbani.

SGPC president also announced to continue the Dharam Prachar Lehar (movement) started by the SGPC on the occasion of the 400th birth anniversary of the ninth Guru throughout the year.

During the function, hazuri raagi jathas of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib including Bhai Karaj Singh and Bhai Sukhjinder Singh, hazuri raagi of Gurdwara Baba Bakala Sahib including Bhai Resham Singh and Bhai Harjit Singh and jathas of Bibi Ravinder Kaur Patiala and Bibi Amarjit Kaur recited Gurbani Kirtan. Apart from this, Bibi Rajwant Kaur’s dhaddi jatha connected the gathering with Sikh history and preacher Bibi Harpreet Kaur managed the stage.

On this occasion among others, SGPC member and former MLA S. Baljit Singh Jalalusma, Jathedar Jarnail Singh Dogranwala, Bhai Ram Singh, Bibi Joginder Kaur Bathinda, Bibi Davinder Kaur, Bibi Gurwinder Kaur Jalalusman, Bibi Daljit Kaur, Bibi Kiran Sharma, Bibi Ravinder Kaur Brahmpura, Bibi Jatinder Kaur Thukral, Bibi Ranjit Kaur Raiya, SGPC additional secretary Partap Singh, assistant secretary Kulwinder Singh Ramdas, S. Harjit Singh Lalu Ghuman, S. Simarjeet Singh, S. Mukhtar Singh, OSD Dr Sukhbir Singh, Dr Amrik Singh Latifpur, and other officials were present.

Main function to be held on March 18

A grand function will be organized on March 18 at Gurdwara Sri Baba Bakala Sahib, the historic site of the ninth Guru, as part of the series initiated by the SGPC on the occasion of the 400th Prakash Purab of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib. In this connection, a huge set-up has been decorated at the stadium very close to Gurdwara Sahib Patshahi Nauvin.

SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur said that ceremonies dedicated to the 400th Prakash Purab have been started all over India. These ceremonies are being held at the shrines associated with the ninth Guru Sahib. Under this a three-day function has been organized at the holy shrine of Guru Sahib at Baba Bakala Sahib, the main function of which will be memorable.
