Former union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal today asked Congress mps protesting against the rise in petroleum products in parliament to first reduce State taxes on petrol and diesel in their States while pointing out that VAT on petro products was one of the highest in Punjab.
Interjecting during zero hour, the Bathinda mp said Congress mps should not indulge in hypocrisy. “Before pressing the central government to reduce the price of petroleum products, they should impress on Congress governments in the States, including Punjab, to reduce VAT on petrol and diesel with immediate effect”.
Mrs Harsimrat Badal also took on the central government on the occasion, asking why prices of petroleum products were not being reduced in the country despite the fact that crude oil prices were at an all time low.
Earlier the Bathinda mp urged the Speaker to allocate time to discuss this issue of public importance. Linking the issue with International Women’s Day, she said women across the country were in a fix on how to manage their households due to the sharp increase in the prices of LPG cylinders as well as petrol and diesel.
She also requested that separate time should be allocated to discuss women issues including holding detailed discussion on ways and means to reduce LPG cylinder as well as petrol and diesel prices.
