Congress firmly with food growers, Jakhar exhorts party rank and file to support agitating farmers

Reiterating the firm commitment of Congress party to safeguard the interests of the farmers, the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee Mr Sunil Jakhar today exhorted all the party workers and leaders to support the agitating farmers by all means.

In a statement issued here today, the President of Punjab Congress said that by stopping the farmers, on way for peaceful protest at New Delhi, the Haryana government was scuttling the constitutional rights of people on the directions of Centre government.

He said that it was ironic that Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi had been boasting that farmers could sell their produce anywhere but BJP government was not even allowing farmers to go to New Delhi for exercising their democratic right. Mr Jakhar said that farmers were protesting peacefully from last two months but now by inhuman treatment the BJP government was trying to incite them.

The President of Punjab Congress bemoaned that today when the entire country was celebrating Constitution Day, the BJP government was depriving the people of their constitutional right of peaceful protest.

He said that the Union government had earlier ruined the Federal structure of country by formulating three draconian laws after infringing State’s list and now it was hell bent upon crushing the farmers agitation with heavy hand. Mr Jakhar said that the Union government through the black law has also divested the farmers of their basic right to move to court on the issue.

The President of Punjab a congress said that it would have been better if the centre had allotted site near Buraari to the farmers for protest and had called upon them for talks to resolve the issue. He assured the farmers that Congress party was with them in this hour of crisis and Punjab government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh was making strenuous efforts for safeguarding their rights within the ambit of law.
